Driving simulator for operational driving training

Speed meets precision

Emergency driving by the fire department, police and rescue services cannot be compared with the normal demands placed on drivers by road traffic. In an emergency, every minute counts: paramedics, police officers, emergency doctors and firefighters usually have to drive at high speed in order to arrive at the scene in time. Driving with flashing blue lights and sirens requires maximum concentration, driving skills and knowledge of the law from the driver. The "Emergency driving" software module offers drivers the opportunity to train for emergencies in the driving simulator. With the help of the driving simulator, experienced and young emergency drivers can face these special conditions, put theoretical knowledge into virtual practice or deepen existing experience. Because one thing is certain: practiced driving behavior, especially in dangerous situations, is the best guarantee for an accident-free journey.

The simulator allows firefighters and emergency responders to accurately assess critical situations and act tactically.

Examples of Hazard Focus Areas

  • Crossing traffic lights when the signal is red
  • Misbehavior of other road users
  • Form an emergency exit
  • Confusing traffic situations
  • Collision with a tram
  • Bridges with low height
  • Dangers from cyclists and pedestrians
  • Overtake by car (included mountain peaks)

Surroundings City, country road and highway
Vehicle types: Rescue, police or fire vehicles
Analysis tools Replay and diagrams
Wetterbedingungen: good weather, rain, snow, fog and darkness

Concept

The simulator is designed to support theoretical instruction. Each participant is expected to receive a simulator-based training unit lasting about 10 minutes, with group sizes ranging from 5 to 10 people.
Training Unit Breakdown
Driving Phase (Duration: approx. 5 min): During this phase, the driver is not addressed by the instructor. Unlike real driving, there is no risk of injury, allowing the driver to make mistakes and learn from them.
Analysis Phase: After the drive, the instructor has access to powerful replay options for analysis. This phase enables the instructor to comment on the drive and connect theory with (virtual) practice.

Another advantage of the simulator is that the entire teaching group can be involved as spectators on the trip and in the analysis of the trip gesamte Unterrichtsgruppe als Zuschauer an der Fahrt sowie an der Analyse der Fahrt mit einbezogen werden kann.

The “Operation drive” software module is available for:

Scenarios

Process Overview

Each driving session lasts about 3-6 minutes (depending on the driver's chosen speed) and offers various practice drives. The routes include urban areas, rural roads with town passages, and highway sections. Most scenarios are reproducible, allowing instructors to know in advance the situations trainees will face and prepare their explanations accordingly. This also enables performance comparisons between students if desired. In each scenario, the driver’s task is to reach a destination set by a navigation system as quickly as possible, without provoking disproportionate danger or causing an accident. Various events occur along the route, and the simulated traffic responds differently to the use of the siren. Each scenario is available in three different difficulty levels.
Jedes Szenario gibt es in drei verschiedenen Schwierigkeitslevel:

Each scenario is available in three different difficulty levels:
Level 1:

  • External traffic greatly reduced / vehicles behave largely correctly
  • No special danger situations

Level 2:

  • Traffic behaves unfavorably or recklessly
  • special hazards

Level 3:

  • Increased dangerous situations that can lead to accidents if the driver is inattentive
  • Multiple drivers in the opposing traffic programmed to collide while disregarding right-of-way.

weather conditions

Alle Szenarien können, neben dem Schwierigkeitslevel, auch bei unterschiedlichen Wetter
bedingungen gefahren werden. Die Auswahlmöglichkeiten sind:

good weather, fog, rain, dust, night, snow, winter

Analysis

After the student has completed the operational journey, the instructor has the following powerful tools at his disposal to analyze the journey. Here he can comment on the journey and draw the student's attention to his mistakes.

Recording the entire journey - Replay

The entire course of the journey can be called up again with the help of a “replay”. The driver can also run the events forwards and backwards and stop if desired. This means that situations can also be explained using still images. It is also it is also possible to change the camera change the camera perspective.

Replay functions: Start, stop, fast forward, fast rewind. fast rewind.
Camera perspectives: Driver's perspective, top view, view of the vehicle from diagonally above

Technical data

Diagram representation

The most important vehicle parameters such as speed, gear selection, pedal positions, engine speed, etc. are displayed in the form of a diagram. This diagram is displayed during the replay displayed during the replay and supports the instructor with the analysis

der Analyse.

Recording visual behavior

During the journey, the driver's face is recorded by a camera. During the replay, this recording is also available to the instructor synchronized with the overall recording. This technique allows the instructor to recognize and comment on the visual behaviour in relation to side roads and mirror use. This technology is only available on simulators equipped with the optional camera.

Optional

Manual gearshift

The basic version of the simulator has automatic gear shifting. This option adds a manual gearshift (5G+R) and a clutch pedal are added

Control Panel

The control panel consists of a separate PC with two 27” monitors. The PC is connected to the simulator connected to the simulator and the Mitschau system via a LAN cable. A detailed description of the software functions can be found in the separate documentation.

sensor for braking readiness

Auf Wunsch kann ein Sensor zur Erkennung der Position des rechten Fußes installiert werden. Das System
kann damit erkennen, ob der Fahrer bei einer potentiellen Gefahr den Fuß über der Bremse hat und sich
somit in Bremsbereitschaft befindet. Diese Information wird auf dem Mitschausystem sowie auf dem
Steuerpult angezeigt.

Movement System

The simulator can be equipped with a motion system under the driver's seat. This enhances the driving experience during steering, acceleration, and braking, simulating forces from uneven surfaces, inclines, and declines, and helps reduce motion sickness.

sensor for braking readiness

If desired, a sensor can be installed to detect the position of the right foot. The system can use it to detect whether the driver has his foot over the brake in the event of a potential danger is therefore ready to brake. This information is displayed on the viewing system as well as on the Control panel displayed.

Integrated Visual System

As an alternative to the standard monitors, the Smart Drive can be equipped with 27” screens. The simulator is therefore significantly narrower, is easy to transport and is also suitable for small rooms ideally suited.

Big monitor

The simulator can also run with larger monitors. We are happy to offer that too Simulator with 55" screens.

view-control-system

This system provides all essential information in one place while driving and in replay 55" screen. The ride is shown from different perspectives and additionally Information such as time traveled, pedal positions, speed and status displays Spectators are available for group lessons.

passenger seat

This second seat allows the passenger or instructor to sit next to the driver. This means that the interaction between driver and passenger can also be trained on the simulator. The passenger seat is only available in combination with the 55" monitors.
